Bike Trip Day 6 - Out & Back before lunch

Sant Sebastià Lighthouse Route 21 Miles (500’ elevation gain)
Shuttle to Barcelona 1½ Hours

We rode north high above the rocky shoreline, got warmed up with a few short steep climbs to the lovely fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell. A bit farther is Llafranc, with elegant homes along the forested hillside and luxury boats moored in the marina.  Some of us stopped to visit the Sant Sebastià lighthouse, which has the farthest-reaching light of any in Spain. Built in 1857, the lighthouse towers 550 feet above the sea and offers extraordinary views of the surrounding crescent bays.

Riding back to the Hotel Trias to the end of the ride

We made it back in time before the closing of the muy excellente hotel breakfast.   We packed up for the last time, and said goodbye to our trip leaders and our fellow bikers some of whom we got to know fairly well as the trip progressed.

On the shuttle back to Barcelona, hugs and goodbyes at the Franca train station.  Can't believe it's only been a week since we all first met.   Everyone goes separate ways.  Some are staying on in Barcelona, some are going back to their homes and work lives in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Toronto or California (us).  Richard and I promise each other we will do more bike trips at home since we live in a bike mecca (perfect weather, hills, etc).

Back in Barcelona
Taxi to Hesperia Del Port Hotel, which turned out to be A DUMP.  (Thank you Hotels.com).  Richard unpacked while I try to find another hotel in the city.  Found one on the Diagonal, a more business/retail area.  So we pack up a little too fast.  Once we arrive at the Princesa Sofia Hotel clear across town, Richard realizes that he forgot the laptop at the Hesperia.   Nick, the reservation attendant on duty at the Hesperia went back to our room, found the laptop (a Mac Air) and held it for us to come get it.   We gratefully take the Metro  back down to the Raval district to fetch the laptop - gave Nick a hefty tip for being honest.  Wandered around in search of non-Catalan pizza.
